A special 'cry bar' has opened in downtown Xi'an recently. Customers can vent their grievances through bitter tears, and by abusing and breaking objects provided by the establishment (for a 50 yuan hourly fee, that is). 'One day there will be loud sobs and weeping in here,' said the hostess optimistically yesterday. However, 'Cry Bar' has received few customers since its opening over ten days ago.
The bar, divided into a confiding room and a venting room, is simply decorated with ivory curtains hanging from each wall. Flower water, essential oils and tissues are provided in the confiding room to ease the customer's tears. The venting room is equipped with numerous balloons for customers to stomp; a sandbag is hung from the ceiling and boxing gloves are provided; two rag dolls are tied to the wall; a box of glass cups is also supplied.
The hostess said, 'Customers can break these cups on the floor and walls if they need to release their emotional tension.'
