Lying in a sub-tropical moist monsoon climatic zone, Wuhan has distinct four seasons with an annual average temperature of 16.8 centigrade and an annual average rainfall of 1093.3 milimeters. Its total green belts amount to an area of 359.56 square meters, covering 34.88 percent of the city.
Wuhan has a well-deserved reputation as one of China's three summer 'furnaces', the other two cities are Chongqing and Nanjing.
The city started keeping meteorological analysis in 1907. The highest temperature appeared on July 2, while the maximum temperature was 40 degrees Celsius in the city proper.
