Shibaozhai Temple

Traveling by boat from Chongqing to Wuhan, Shibaozhai is one of the first scenic spots you pass.

This is one of the most spectacular sites along the Yangtze and certainly one of the more unusual buildings in this part of the world. This 12-storey wooden pagoda built against the side of a sheer rectangular cliff, consists of three sections; the gate, the body and a small temple situated at the top.

Today, this 400 year old temple has one of the best views of the Yangtze River.

The cruise boats along the Yangtze usually stop near here, allowing passengers to disembark and spend some time at this spot.
