Three Gorges Dam

Although the Three Gorges Dam project has already received much criticism, the construction of the huge Dam is well under way, despite national and international disapproval. The site of the "largest project in China" is Sandouping in Yichang, along the route of the Yangtze river tour.

The construction of the dam will have a huge effect on the upper reaches of the Yangtze river, with the sudden rise in water levels submerging many of the towns and villages along the river edge. By the time this project is complete, many of the nicest spots along the river will be destroyed; Shibaozhai Temple will be left stranded in the middle of the river, and the splendor of the Qutang Gorge will be largely eradicated.
