After
passing Mural Hill, one arrives at the Yellow Cloth Shoal by boating downstream
along Li River. The cliffs become steeper while the water become wider
and calmer here. The water is so limpid that a broad flagstone, yellow
in color, flat in form could be seen on the riverbed, resembling a yellow
cloth spreading there. Hence the name Yellow Cloth Shoal. It is the best
place to view the reflection of peaks in water.
On both sides of the shoal, there are seven
peaks in various gestures and sizes rising straight from the river, elegant
and graceful, resembling seven elegant girls. Imaginative people give
them a beautiful name "Seven Celestial Sisters Coming Down to Earth."
It was said that seven fairies once traveled Li River. Attracted by the
enthralling scenery, they forgot to return. When the god asked them to
return, they, against the God's order, changed themselves into peaks and
rested there forever.
Enticing as the reflections are, not all
visitors have the luck to fully enjoy them. In rainy days, the reflections
are smashed by the raindrop and in foggy days, they are blurred by the
mist. Only in sunny days, the reflection is best legible and visitors
can fully enjoy the reflection there.
