In the Liaohe River delta in central and western Liaoning Province there is a national nature reserve 30 kilometers from downtown Panjin. In the nature reserve there is a beach named Honghai, covering an area of more than 20 square kilometers. It is home to 236 species of birds, including the red-crowned cranes and black-beaked gulls.
