Tossing
It is a traditional entertainment popular among the Zhuang tribe
and a way for the young men and women to express their love. The
ball is made of silk or cloth strips by the Zhuang girls. At singing
fairs and during the Spring Festival, the girls tie a love token
to the balls and toss the ball to the men they love.
Guiju Opera
It is a major local opera in Guangxi and sung in the local dialect.
The opera is unadorned and vivid and features a soft, lively,
and vigorous melody.
Zhuangju Opera
It'is the principal opera loved by people of the Zhuang ethnic
group. The opera can be divided into the Northern, Southern, and
Shigong schools. It has rich subjects and a unique form of expression,
combining dialogue, singing, acting, and dancing to show from
different angles the colorful life of the Zhuang tribe.
Bronze Drum
It is a long-standing percussion instrument and a handicraft
of the Zhuang and Yao minority groups. There are seven kinds of
bronze drums, all made of bronze with a pattern of sun-rays slightly
protuberating in the center. In ancient times, the tribal chieftains
beat the drum to call the people to discuss public affairs or
attend sacrificial ceremonies. The drum was also presented as
a tribute to the royal court and was given as a reward. It was
a symbol of wealth and power.
The
Lijiang Minority Customs Park
It is located in the city of Guilin. Inside the park are the
Dong Drum Tower; imitation structures of the Zhuang, Dong, Miao,
and Yao ethnic villages; archways of the various ethnic tribes,
and other architectural structures.
