Formerlv known as Xiangshan County, the city was named after Dr. Sun Yatsen (pronounced as Zhongshan in mandarin Chinese), and was among the five richest areas in the Zhujiang River Delta, the other four being Nanhai, Panyu. Shunde, and Dongguan. There are such tourist attractions as the Zhongshan Hot Spring Scenic Spot, the Zhongshan Hot Spring Golf Club, and Zimaling Park.

Former Residence of Sun Yat-sen

The Former Residence of Sun Yat-sen is located in Cuiheng Town, 29 kilometers from downtown Zhongshan. A two-story building, it was designed in both traditional Chinese and Western styles by Dr. Sun Yat-sen himself. In front of the building there is an exhibition hall, displaying many relics and the life of Sun Yat-sen.
