known as Hutoumen, Humen is located in downtown Dongguan, and is of
strategic importance on the outlet of the Zhujiang River, resembling
the mouth of a tiger between Dongguan and Panyu cities.
Prior to the Opium War, 11 forts and 300 cannons were arranged along
the banks of the Zhujiang River and its islands under the command of
Lin Zexu and Guan Tianpei. During the Opium War, the armymen and the
residents of Humen bravely fought against foreign invaders, writing
a solemn and stirring page in Chinese history.
