| Located
in southern Guangdong Province, Foshan was named Foshan since three
Buddhist statues were unearthed during the reign of Emperor Zhen Guan
of the Tang Dynasty. The places of interest are the Ancestral Temple,
the Confucian Temple, the ruins in Shiwan, and the Stars Thatched Hut
in Mingyuan.
The Ancestral Temple was erected in the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127)
and was rebuilt in 1372 in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The temple
enshrines the god of the Taoism, and has a rich collection of pottery
statues, stone carvings, brick carvings, woodcarvings, and bronze and
iron statues.
